Professional Land Surveying Services Help Preserve Open Space

Foster, RIFoster Survey Company, a leader in providing expert professional services including boundary surveying, mapping, land planning, septic system designs, subdivision design, GIS, and GPS throughout Rhode Island, is proud to announce today that the West Greenwich Land Trust has selected Foster Survey Company to provide professional land surveying services to survey an existing Conservation Development Rights boundary.

The rights of a portion of this property, located on Hopkins Hill Road in West Greenwich, RI, had been acquired by the West Greenwich Land Trust to preserve the land by acquisition of a Conservation Developments Rights Easement.

The West Greenwich Town Council established the West Greenwich Land Trust in 1997 to acquire and preserve open space. Lands described as farm land, open spaces, historical places, fresh water wetlands, ground water recharge areas, well fields, wildlife habitats, bicycle and hiking paths and land for future public recreational use are among those noted in the enabling ordinance.

The West Greenwich Land Trust’s Mission:

The purpose of the West Greenwich Land Trust is to preserve open space and maintain existing agricultural, wildlife, recreational, scenic, and historical land uses which represent the natural heritage of the Town, through voluntary means emphasizing private ownership.

Professional Land Surveying Services Provided

The West Greenwich Land Trust has retained Foster Survey Company to survey the boundaries and prepare a Class I survey plan of 15 acres of land on Hopkins Hill Road in West Greenwich. These professional land surveying services include:

  • This survey is to establish the metes and bounds of 15 acres within a 111 acre property for an existing conservation easement owned by the West Greenwich Land Trust.
  • The survey, monumentation, and plan performed and prepared in accordance with the Rhode Island Class I Survey Standard.
  • Recording the certified Class I Survey Plan in the Land Evidence Records in the West Greenwich Town Hall.
  • Physical structures (houses, barns, garages, sheds, wells, walls, OWTS) and utilities (poles, guy wires, overhead lines, etc.), survey located in the field and delineated on the Class I Survey Plan.

Eric Colburn is a registered licensed Rhode Island Professional Land Surveyor (RI No. 1920) with 40 years of experience in land surveying and land development industries, and president of Foster Survey Company. He is an expert experienced in all aspects of boundary surveying and surveying technologies such as robotic surveying systems, Global Positioning Systems (GPS), AutoCAD Civil 3D, drone surveying, and remote sensing surveys.

• Licensed Class II Septic System OWTS Designer (RI No. 2052)
• Certified Bottomless Sand Filter Designer
• OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety & Health Certified.

He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Rhode Island Society of Professional Land Surveyors (RISPLS) and has been active in many professional land surveying organizations, including ACSM-NES, American Congress on Surveying & Mapping (ACSM), and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). Eric served on the Board of Directors and was past President of the New England Section of the American Congress on Surveying & Mapping (ACSM-NES), which became the Geomatics Society of New England.
