Eric D. Colburn, PLS, President of Foster Survey Company and licensed Class II Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (RIDEM) Onsite Wastewater Treatment System (OWTS) designer, attended and completed the Designing Nitrogen Removal Technologies course in Kingston, RI, held today, December 10, 2015, at the University of Rhode Island (URI) New England Onsite Wastewater Training Program (NEOWTP).
RIDEM Class II Designers need to get 12 hours of OWTS specific Continuing Education Credits (CEU’s) per every 3-year licensing renewal term. For the current renewal term of 2013-2015, the 8-hour Designing Nitrogen Removal Technologies course accounted for 4 CEU’s towards Eric’s 12-hour total required CEU’s. He previously obtained a total of 6-hours CEU’s by attending the Connecticut Soil Day and receiving training for Orenco Systems, Inc. Advantex Treatment Systems and ROTH MultiTank (RMT) Series Installation.
Designing Nitrogen Removal Technologies Course
The Designing Nitrogen Removal Technologies course addressed the technologies and RIDEM allowed OWTS’s, or septic systems, to reduce treated effluent nitrogen concentrations of nineteen (19) mg/l or less. Nitrogen removal technologies enhance groundwater quality and are often needed for upgrading cesspools, developing small lots, coastal properties or land in a defined RIDEM Critical Resource Area.
“I often need to use advanced septic system designs and technologies, whether to satisfy state or local requirements, or to meet the clients need for land development or home improvement projects” said Eric D. Colburn, PLS, President of Foster Survey Company, “so my keeping up with the latest nitrogen removal technologies and science gives my clients the best possible options for developing their property and protecting the environment.”
Designing Nitrogen Removal Technologies Course Description:
Design overview of commonly used nitrogen reducing technologies will be addressed. All support materials will be discussed and finalized including a pressurized pump design. Adherence to the OWTS rules will be discussed. Instructors: NEOWTP staff.
